Paper on the process of catalouging the estate of Leonore Mau in Rundbrief Fotografie, April 2023

The paper “I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER. END OF STORY.” On Studying of the Work of Leonore Mau at the Interface of Art Photography and Ethnological Documentation by Anna Götte (S. Fischer Foundation) and Christina Stehr (bpk-Bildagentur), appeared in the second quarterly edition (2023) of the journal Rundbrief Fotografie. The article provides insights into the five-year indexing project, refers to the Leonore Mau website and also addresses the accompanying challenges that arise when dealing with sensitive image .

Film screening at the Master of Art Festival, February 2023

The documentary DIESE PHOTOGRAPHIN HEISST LEONORE MAU by filmmaker Nathalie David, former assistant of Leonore Mau, was screened at the Master of Art Film Festival at the Goethe-Institut Bulgaria on 23.02.2023. The screening was followed by a discussion with the audience, which Nathalie David attended in person.

Interview on Leonore Mau’s estate in SPKMAGAZINE, October 2022

The interview Documenting, Not Staging: The Rediscovery of Leonore Mau, conducted by the editor Gesine Bahr with Christina Stehr (bpk-Bildagentur) and Anna Götte (S. Fischer Foundation), was published on the SPKMAGAZINE website on 18 October 2022. The interview reports on the cooperative indexing project on Leonore Maus’ photographic estate. They also discuss the Leonore Mau website and the accompanying challenges in dealing with sensitive image motifs.

The City of Hamburg honours Leonore Mau with street naming, June 2022

The Department of Culture and Media Hamburg announced the new street name Leonore-Mau-Weg in the Kolbenhöfe neighbourhood on 23 June 2022. The site is located in the Ottensen district and is currently under reconstruction. Accordingly, the street sign has not yet been erected, but the name has already been affixed to the house façade of the office and commercial block (see photo).

Research project Out of Focus. The artistic-ethnographic practice of Maya Deren and Leonore Mau, 2021-2024

Dr. Dora Imhof and the artist collective U5 are researching Leonore Mau’s photographs in Haiti, comparing them to the photographs of the director and film theorist Maya Deren. One of the guiding questions is the nature of the representability of religious practices through the medium of photography and film.
